Libpcap, WinPcap, and Npcap also support saving captured packets to a file, and reading files containing saved packets; applications can be written, using libpcap, WinPcap, or Npcap, to be able to capture network traffic and analyze it, or to read a saved capture and analyze it, using the same analysis code. WinPcap is a tool that allows users to transfer packets of information within Windows operating systems by circumventing the protocol stack. This allows data to be processed more efficiently. Such a tool is often used by website developers, networking testing professionals and open-source software creators. WinPcap is a tool that allows users to transfer packets of information within Windows operating systems by circumventing the protocol stack. This allows data to be processed more efficiently. Such a tool is often used by website developers, networking testing professionals and open-source software creators. For many years, WinPcap has been recognized as the industry-standard tool for link-layer network access in Windows environments, allowing applications to capture and transmit network packets bypassing the protocol stack, and including kernel-level packet filtering, a network statistics engine and support for remote packet capture. Win10Pcap is a new WinPcap-based Ethernet packet capture library. Unlike original WinPcap, Win10Pcap is compatible with NDIS 6.x driver model to work stably with Windows 10.
Winpcap Download Windows 10

WinPcap, though still available for download (v4.1.3), has not seen an upgrade in many years and there are no road map/future plans to update the technology. While community support may persist, technical oversight by Riverbed staff, responses to questions posed by Riverbed resources, and bug reporting are no longer available.

Gordon Lyon, Nmap project founder, has created Npcap, a packet capture library for Windows, that includes WinPcap compatibility and may be a suitable replacement for WinPcap and WinPcap Pro. Information can be found at https://nmap.org/npcap/.
